X (formerly Twitter) will remove the ability to block other users
Elon Musk has announced that social network X, formerly known as Twitter, will remove the ability to block other users’ accounts. Later, Musk added that this feature did not make sense.
The former Twitter owner answered a question from the Tesla Owners Silicon Valley account whether it makes sense to block someone at all: “The block will be removed as an option, except for DMs.” This will mean that users will not be able to block any other account.
Instead of locking, Musk offered X users the Mute function. It removes the account’s posts from your timeline without unsubscribing from it, while blocking prevents the account user from viewing your publicly shared posts in X. When you deactivate an X/Twitter account, it will still be able to reply to your public posts (you just won’t get a notification).
In addition, user X can set the private status of his account. This allows you to control who can view and respond to your posts. When someone signs up for X, their tweets are public by default. Private status allows you to approve or reject requests from new subscribers.
Blocking is one of the traditional ways to keep your peace on social media. Users can block someone’s account to avoid disputes, insults, or to hide information from their account from specific people. It is unlikely that deprivation of this opportunity will contribute to the popularity of network X, especially given other recent changes and the defiant behavior of its owner.
