X / Twitter no longer shows news headlines – Elon Musk decided to fight clickbait in this way

If you try to post a link in X from iOS (and after the update, in the web version as well), it will only show an image with an attached file.

X (formerly Twitter) no longer shows the titles of articles published on the platform – instead, it only shows the main image of the article and the domain to which you are sent.

You can see the differences between the updated and the old version in the screenshots:

The change, which will create problems for news agencies, did not come as a complete surprise. Back in August, Fortune reported that the update was under development, and X owner Elon Musk confirmed that it would “significantly improve the aesthetics” and “help curb clickbait.”

Recently, Musk has encouraged users to publish more content directly on X in an effort to increase activity on the platform. He also said that the algorithm tries to “optimize the time spent on X” and that “it’s best to publish long-form content on the platform.” It seems that removing headers only makes X harder to use (posts are not as easy to analyze at a glance), so it’s debatable whether these changes are useful.

Earlier, Elon announced a paid X with a “small” monthly fee. The billionaire believes that such changes will help fight bots on the platform.
