1300 kilometers from home: a Ukrainian drone strikes a Russian oil refinery

A long-range drone hit a Russian oil refinery more than 1,300 kilometers from Ukraine.

This was reported by local media.

In Russia, on May 9, at about 11:00 (13:00 local time), a drone attacked the Salavatnefteorgsintez oil refinery in Bashkiria, owned by Gazprom.

According to a local newspaper, the attack targeted a catalytic cracker. After that, the company’s employees heard an explosion and saw smoke and fire in the area of the hit.

According to open sources, Salavatnefteorgsintez is the tenth largest oil refinery in Russia. Its annual raw material processing capacity is about 10 million tons.

The company is located more than 1,300 kilometers from Ukraine. It is currently the most remote facility hit by drones.

Strikes on the fuel infrastructure

On the same day, a group of attack drones struck a Russian oil depot in Krasnodar Krai, causing a fire and widespread damage.

Judging by the footage from the scene, at least two large five-thousand-ton RVS-5000 tanks were damaged. Obviously, they were irretrievably lost, and the fire on them will be extinguished only when the fuel burns out.

The Russian facility is located 300 kilometers in a straight line from the contact line in Zaporizhzhia. However, it is possible that the drones could have been launched via the Black Sea, which could have extended the flight duration to 800 km.

Earlier, on May 1, attack drones attacked Russian oil refineries in Ryazan and Voronezh region.

A fire broke out at the Ryazan oil refinery owned by Rosneft. Locals reported that they first heard a humming sound, followed by two explosions. A video of the fire was posted on social media.
