Ukraine received Smart Shooter systems from Israel to intercept Iranian drones

The system detects kamikaze drones with the help of artificial intelligence and fires aimed fire at them

Ukrainian troops use an Israeli system to combat drones called Smart Shooter. It can effectively destroy Iranian kamikaze drones launched by the Russian Federation. The Israeli publication Debka writes about it.

The Armed Forces have already installed Smart Shooter on light aircraft and unmanned aerial vehicles, preparing to repel new air attacks from the Russian Federation.

Smart Shooter is a fire control system, essentially a ‘smart’ scope that detects targets using radar and then pinpoints the type of drone and its location to destroy with small arms.

With the help of artificial intelligence, Smart Shooter works on the principle of ‘one shot – one hit’.

The Israeli Army (IDF) first used the Smart Shooter in September 2022 in Hebron to disperse Palestinian protests. At the time, the system used sponge balls instead of bullets, but it was positioned as a means of combating drones.

The height of the standard system is 95 cm, the weight is about 75 kg, but there is a lighter version that is installed on cannons and machine guns.

In September, The Times of Israel found out that one of the Israeli defense companies had sent anti-drone systems to Ukraine through the mediation of Poland.

Israel does not want to transfer military technology directly to the Ukrainian army, so the company sold the equipment to Warsaw.

The company told Israel’s Defense Ministry that it was unaware of Poland’s plans to transfer weapons to Ukraine, but the Israeli government appears to have decided not to interfere in the deal.

As previously reported, Israel will provide the US with evidence of Russia’s use of Iranian drones in the war against Ukraine.
