Development of a long-range missile has begun in Ukraine

The Ukrainian government is funding a project to develop a Ukrainian long-range missile. This was reported by Oleksiy Reznikov.

The head of the defense ministry claims that Ukraine has good prospects for producing missiles capable of hitting targets at a distance of more than 1,000 kilometers. He reminded that the government had approved the missile program. It is financed from the budget. The program involves 100% Ukrainian enterprises.

We officially have an approved missile program. Funds are already being officially allocated from the budget. The implementers of this program are 100% Ukrainian, the industry” Reznikov said.

Reznikov cited the Neptune rocket as an example of the success of domestic rocketry. In 2022, such missiles were used to sink the Moskva flagship. The Neptune missile is a cruise missile. Thus, nothing prevents Ukraine from creating a land-based cruise missile with a range of over 1,000 kilometers.

We have very good prospects of having Ukrainian missiles with a range of more than a thousand kilometers,” Reznikov emphasized.

Reznikov is convinced that once the Ukrainian Armed Forces are equipped with Ukrainian-made missile weapons, Ukraine’s partners will no longer doubt the feasibility of transferring ATACMS and other long-range weapons.

As a reminder, the Sapsan long-range tactical missile system was supposed to be Ukraine’s most powerful weapon. It could hit a target at a distance of up to 500 km. For example, the distance from Moscow to the Ukrainian border is approximately 480 kilometers.

Ukraine began producing the Grom-2 in 2016 at the request of Saudi Arabia. In February 2021, then-Defense Minister Andriy Taran said that the OTRK was 80% complete and that “the last step needs to be taken” to finalize it. In March 2023, Oleksiy Reznikov noted that there is a “realistic plan” to complete the creation of the missile system this year.
