YouTube is testing a view limit for users of ad blockers

Google continues to fight against ad blocking on Youtube. Earlier, the company tested a pop-up window with a warning about the blocker ban and a choice to allow ads or purchase Youtube Premium. Now we are experimenting with limiting the number of videos viewed to three if the blocker is re-enabled.

The company confirmed “a small experiment around the world that encourages viewers with ad blockers enabled to allow ads on YouTube or try YouTube Premium.” The announcement was made after some users started noticing a new warning that video playback could be disabled if YouTube detects repeated use of ad-blocking tools.

A spokesperson for the service said that YouTube plans to display several warning messages urging users to stop using blocking tools or subscribe to YouTube Premium before their viewing is interrupted.

“We take playback disabling very seriously and will only disable it if viewers ignore repeated requests to allow ads on YouTube. In cases where viewers believe they have been mistakenly labeled as ad-blocker users, they can share their feedback by following the link in the tooltip.”

YouTube insists on display advertising as an important means of providing “billions of people around the world with free access to content”. The service is constantly experimenting with different advertising offers, which sometimes cause a strong reaction from users. In the last year alone, YouTube has offered 30-second non-pause ads on TVs, ads in Shorts, and an increase in forced ad integrations to 10 in a row.
