Netflix completes filming of The Witcher spinoff about the Rat Pack ahead of schedule

The series will probably be released in a shortened version

The second spin-off of The Witcher has been rumored since November last year, but Netflix has not yet officially announced its production. Now there is information that the series has been completed ahead of schedule and is likely to be somewhat shorter than planned.

The filming of the series about the Rats gang (based on the works of Andrzej Sapkowski – thieves who resell their loot), codenamed “Riff Raff”, lasted about 2 months in Cape Town and ended quite unexpectedly on July 1, 2023.

Earlier, film industry insiders reported that the filming would take about six months (from April to September 2023), but instead it took place only in May and June. According to rumors, the spin-off was supposed to consist of 8 episodes, but given the length of filming, the final version is likely to be shorter.

The first prequel, The Witcher: Bloodline (which received the worst Netflix audience rating ever) was also cut – but already in post-production.

It is known that actors Ben Radcliffe (Giselaire), Christelle Alvin (Mistletoe), Fabian McCallum (Kaylee), Aggie K. Adams (Spark), Juliette Alexander (Ref), Connor Crawford (Asse):

Dolph Lundgren (Bregen) was also present on the set, and Freya Allan is not associated with the project, so you shouldn’t expect even a cameo appearance by Ciri.

The project was created by The Witcher writer and producer Haley Hall and directed by Mairzi Almas (The Sandman, Shadow and Bone).

  • On June 29, Netflix released the first five episodes of The Witcher season 3 (the last one with Henry Cavill as Geralt, who will be replaced by Liam Hemsworth), and it seems that the audience did not like the sequel. Currently, the series has 44% “freshness” from viewers and 83% from professional critics on the Rotten Tomatoes website. In the reviews, the third season of The Witcher is called “the worst show of 2023”. The final three episodes will be released on Netflix on July 27.
  • The production of the fifth season of The Witcher will start shortly after the completion of the fourth season, which is due to start soon. Netflix also has at least two more projects in the Witcher universe – an animated film and an animated series for children.
