Netflix postpones production of The Witcher season 4 until 2024
Probably, the plans changed because of the joint strikes of actors and screenwriters that have now intensified in Hollywood.
The 4th season of The Witcher fantasy series, in which Liam Hemsworth will replace Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia, has been in development since the fall of 2022. According to preliminary plans, the filming process was supposed to start in September 2023 and be completed in May 2024.
Now, according to Redanian Intelligence, production and filming have been postponed to 2024, so the new season should not be expected to be released before 2025. The exact reasons for the delay are unknown, but it is likely due to the ongoing strikes by the Writers Guild and the SAG-AFTRA actors’ union in Hollywood.
Given Netflix’s new model of scattered releases (the first five episodes of Season 3 were released at the end of June, and the final three will be released tomorrow, a month after the first part), there is a chance for a launch in late 2024, but at a very accelerated pace. For comparison, the filming of Season 3 began on March 31, 2022, and ended on September 12, 2022, with a release in the summer of 2023. This is about 14 months of filming and post-production.
At the same time, Netflix has completed work ahead of schedule on a spinoff of The Witcher about the Rat gang – according to rumors, the series was supposed to consist of 8 episodes, but given the length of filming, the final version is likely to be shorter.
