Near the Dead Sea, Israeli researchers found four perfectly preserved Roman swords. The 1900-year-old weapon was discovered in a very difficult to access cave.
It is noted that three of the four swords were 60 to 65 centimeters long and were still in their wooden sheaths. A team of photographers spotted the weapon in an almost inaccessible crevice. Archaeologists believe that these swords were taken from the Roman army and hidden in the cave by Jewish rebels.
Eli Escudo, director of the Israel Antiquities Authority, noted that these artifacts were preserved due to the arid conditions around the Dead Sea.
He also emphasized that this is a real time capsule, which contains various artifacts, such as fragments of scrolls, coins from the Jewish Revolt, leather sandals, and now even swords in their sheaths, which remain very sharp, as if they had just been hidden. Three of these swords were identified as Roman longswords, while the fourth sword, shorter in size, was recognized as a ring sword.
