Ukraine ordered Slinger anti-drone systems that will reduce the cost of destroying Shahed-136 to $100 (photos, video)
Ukraine has ordered 160 units of Slinger anti-drone systems, which will reduce the cost of shooting down Iranian drones, which are constantly attacked by Russia.
Since the beginning of the fall, the enemy has intensified attacks using Shahed-136. Over the past month, 503 kamikaze drones were launched in the direction of Ukraine. To repel drone attacks, the Ukrainian Armed Forces are using all available means, including air defense systems. The problem is that it is too expensive to destroy the barricading ammunition with SAMs.
To solve this problem, Ukraine has placed an order for 160 units of Slinger anti-drone systems. With their arrival, the cost of destroying one drone will drop to 100-1,000 USD, depending on the type of ammunition used.
To detect small-sized targets, Slinger uses Echodyne EchoGuard 4D radar synchronized with an optoelectronic device and control system. They are destroyed by the 7.62mm FN MAG machine gun and the 30mm Bushmaster M230LF cannon. Slinger ammunition is manufactured by Northrop Grumman.
To increase mobility, the Australian systems will be used by the Armed Forces of Ukraine in tandem with Kozak and HMMWV armored vehicles.
