It will turn a guided bomb into a cruise missile: Boeing to develop P-JDAM turbojet kit
Boeing is working on the development of the Powered Joint Direct Attack Munition (P-JDAM). The company found a supplier of engines.
A conventional JDAM kit consists of wings and a tail unit with navigation equipment. The P-JDAM will use a turbojet engine to increase the range.
Boeing decided to use TDI-J85 turbojet engines. They have a thrust of 90 kg. Kratos Defense & Security Solutions will supply the small engines.
Currently, Boeing does not disclose the range of a bomb equipped with the P-JDAM system. At the same time, the company claims that the radius will increase by 20 times compared to a conventional JDAM. In fact, the P-JDAM kit will turn a simple bomb into a cruise missile.
