An American F-16 fighter jet crashes off the coast of South Korea.
The US Air Force said that the fighter belonged to the 8th Fighter Wing.
The incident occurred in the early morning hours of January 31, around 8:40 a.m. local time (2:40 a.m. Kyiv time), about 180 kilometers south of Seoul.
An American pilot has successfully ejected from an F-16 fighter jet that crashed into the water off the southwestern coast of South Korea on January 31.
He was taken to a medical facility for examination, the US 8th Fighter Wing said in a statement.
“We are very grateful to the rescue forces of the Republic of Korea and all of our teammates who made the rescue of our pilot so quick,” the US Air Force said.
The cause of the crash, which reportedly occurred in waters near the port city of Sosan, is under investigation.
The US military is trying to find the wreckage of the crashed plane.
“Information about the cause of the in-flight emergency will not be provided until a thorough investigation is completed,” the US said.
There were no reports of casualties or damage as a result of the disaster.
The previous crash in this aviation formation, which consists of F-16 fighters, occurred in December 2013.
The pilot then experienced problems during a routine training flight and was safely recovered after ejecting near the port city of Kunsan.
