“Barbie” and “Oppenheimer” are headed for a combined $2 billion at the global box office

“Barbie has already earned $1.18 billion, while Oppenheimer is approaching $650 million.

Last weekend, the Mattel doll movie crossed the $1 billion mark, setting a record for Greta Gerwig (the first time a film directed by a female director solo has reached this amount), and this week it earned another $45.1 million in 75 international markets (down 47%), bringing its total international box office to $657.6 million and global box office to $1.18 billion.

“Barbie” also surpassed “The Dark Knight Returns” and three Harry Potter films to become one of the 10 most popular Warner Bros. films. of all time. The weekend’s only major premiere was Neil Blomkamp’s biographical sports drama Gran Turismo, which earned $10 million in 30 international markets and is set to debut domestically on August 25. Currently, critics on Rotten Tomatoes rate the film at 60%, but the audience has been more favorable, with a 98% rating.
