Competition with YouTube is heating up: TikTok tests the possibility of adding 30-minute videos

TikTok is testing the ability for users to upload 30-minute videos, which is a significant departure from the short-format videos that made the platform popular.

Social media consultant Matt Navarra spotted the new option in the beta version of the iOS app in the UK. According to him, some users can see the feature in the beta version of TikTok for Android.

Initially, TikTok gained popularity thanks to 15-second videos. Gradually, this limit was increased to 10 minutes. If 30-minute videos become a permanent feature, it will significantly increase competition with YouTube.

The line between TikTok and YouTube is blurring

Previously, these two platforms were clearly differentiated: TikTok was mostly used for short videos, YouTube for long ones. The authors, in turn, posted their videos on both services to reach as many different viewers as possible.

Recently, however, the line between platforms has been blurring. TikTok regularly increases the length of videos, and YouTube has released its response in the form of Shorts.

The new limit will give creators even more time to share recipes, tutorials, educational content, and sketches. In addition, content creators will be able to upload entire episodes of TV shows.

Last year, the Peacock streaming service posted the first episode of the new season of Killing It on TikTok. However, due to platform limitations, it was divided into five parts.

Now, with the new feature, networks like Peacock will be able to post full episodes as part of a promotional campaign to attract viewers.
