Cybertruck was shot with a machine gun to test its bulletproofness (photos, video)
Tesla has conducted a bulletproofing experiment for its new Cybertruck electric pickup using a Thompson submachine gun, also known as a Tommy gun.
According to the manufacturer, the Cybertruck has a virtually impenetrable exoskeleton made of heavy-duty 30X cold-rolled stainless steel and armored glass.
Recently, on the roads of San Francisco, users spotted a Cybertruck with damage on the left side, where the ultra-hard steel on the passenger and driver doors was marked by gunshot marks.
Previous tests have shown that the steel used to make the Cybertruck’s body can withstand blows from a sledgehammer and shots from a 9mm firearm. This material is also used in the construction of the SpaceX Starship.
Elon Musk, Tesla’s CEO, commented on the incident on social media, confirming that they had fired a machine gun at the Cybertruck. He noted that the bullets did not penetrate the cabin and that the company may soon provide a video of the tests, including firing a Thompson submachine gun.
Nevertheless, experts say that the testing was probably conducted on steel body panels, not windows, and this shows Tesla’s serious approach to ensuring a certain level of bulletproofness of the Cybertruck.
