According to Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko, the Christmas tree will be set up earlier, by December 6, and will stand until January 10. No entertainment events are planned for this area.
This year, Ukraine’s main Christmas tree will be placed on St. Sophia Square in Kyiv until December 6, with funding from patrons. No large-scale events, fairs or entertainment activities are planned for this area. The mayor of Kyiv, Vitali Klitschko, announced this on his Telegram channel.
This time, the Christmas tree will be removed earlier – it will stand until January 10.
“Traditionally, this year’s main Christmas tree will be set up on St. Sophia Square. This decision was made today by the Kyiv Defense Council. The city will not spend any money. Like last year, the tree will be set up and decorated at the expense of patrons. But in compliance with the regime of limiting the use of electricity,” Klitschko emphasized.
The Mayor of Kyiv stated that GLOBAL-DECOR is fully responsible for the installation and maintenance of the main Christmas tree, and provides all the resources and funding related to this. At the same time, there are no plans to hold large-scale events, fairs or entertainment on St. Sophia Square.
If the city’s district administrations plan any festive events in the districts, they will do so only in compliance with safety rules in places where there are shelters. And not at the expense of the capital’s budget either.
“Since this year we are celebrating Christmas according to the New Julian calendar, the Christmas tree will be set up earlier, by December 6. And, accordingly, it will be taken down earlier – by January 10,” Klitschko summarized.
In addition, the head of the Kyiv City Military Administration, Serhiy Popko, also commented on the installation of the Christmas tree.
“There will be no mass events in Kyiv on Christmas and New Year’s Eve – no fairs, no celebrations. This decision was made by the Kyiv Defense Council in order to comply with security standards. But there will be a Christmas tree!” he wrote.
Popko also noted that all installation work will begin on December 3, and the opening of the Christmas tree is scheduled for December 6. It will remain in place until January 10, 2024.
“It will be installed at the expense of patrons – without spending budget funds on the arrangement of the New Year’s beauty and electricity,” added the head of KIAA.
