Elon Musk told when Tesla will turn into a robot car with full autonomous control
Tesla continues to actively develop, and the head of the company, Elon Musk, announced that by the end of 2022, an important goal should be realized, on which all efforts have been made. Tesla electric cars are rumored to get “full autopilot” support by the end of this year.
Musk, as before, is confident that his engineers are close to creating a full-fledged robot car and that the necessary software is only a few months away.
The two technologies that I’m focused on, and that I’m trying to ideally have completed by the end of the year, are getting our Starship into orbit and then making Tesla cars fully self-driving. A significant spread of self-driving cars, at least in the United States, is already happening, and in Europe, everything depends on the approval of regulatory authorities, Musk said during a speech at an energy conference in Norway.
What is Tesla Full Self-Driving and how does it work
Currently, Tesla’s autopilot – Full Self-Driving – is sold as a separate service costing $15,000 and works as an advanced driver assistance system. The technology allows you to automatically change lanes, enter and exit freeways, recognize traffic signs and traffic lights, and park. At the same time, the software is still in beta testing mode. The company is gradually expanding the functionality, reducing the requirements for the driver’s concentration on the road.
Musk’s statement about the Full Self-Driving system appeared against the background of a series of alarming news about Tesla’s autopilot for the company. In recent months, American regulators have become interested in the company’s technologies – according to some lawmakers, the developer is over-reassuring its customers, due to which they relax behind the wheel and get into accidents. Tesla itself, of course, claims the opposite. According to the company, the Full Self-Driving platform already prevents 40 road accidents per day in the US alone.
