A massive explosion occurred in a multi-story building in Kyiv on the night of June 22, triggering a fire. A gas leak is believed to be the preliminary cause of the explosion. As a result of the updated data, 20 people were rescued, and two people were found dead under the rubble, Espresso reports.
As of 10:30 a.m., it is known that 20 residents have been rescued from the building and five people have been injured.
The head of the Kyiv City State Administration, Serhiy Popko, told more about the fifth victim: at 9:30 a.m., rescuers received information that there might still be residents in the house. At 10:00, a woman was evacuated and given first aid.
The fire was extinguished at 8:10 a.m., the KMVA said, and the prosecutor’s office launched an investigation into the explosion in the apartment building that killed people.
Mayor Klitschko said that the evacuated residents will temporarily stay in two boarding schools in Dniprovsky district. Three people were hospitalized, according to the State Emergency Service of Ukraine (SES).
Earlier it was reported that 18 residents were rescued from the damaged apartments. “Under the rubble in the damaged part of a 16-story building in the Desnyansky district, where the explosion occurred, rescuers found the body of one person,” the statement said.
Search and rescue operations are ongoing, and experts are currently investigating the cause of the explosion.
The fire at the site of the explosion was localized at 5:45. The company employed 70 rescuers and 13 vehicles to eliminate the consequences. Three psychologists from the State Emergency Service are working at the site. We provided assistance to 5 residents.
