The FBI and Colorado law enforcement are investigating threats to the state Supreme Court justices. They ruled last week that Trump cannot be a state candidate in next year’s presidential election.
This was reported by CNN.
State and local law enforcement officials are monitoring rhetoric on extremist online forums and investigating whether they could translate into actual threats against public officials.
The names of the four Colorado Supreme Court justices who ruled to disqualify Trump from the election often appeared in “inflammatory” posts on such forums, calling for the judges’ personal data to be made public. In particular, one user of a far-right forum supporting Trump wrote: “All rats in robes should be hanged.”
Other posts contained indirect calls for civil war, as well as other violent statements.
A representative of the Colorado judiciary would not comment on reports of threats against judges, and Colorado State Patrol Police spokesman Gary Cutler said that any threats against judges would be investigated by local authorities.
- Donald Trump is the leading candidate of the Republican Party. The US presidential election is scheduled for November 5, 2024.
- Colorado Supreme Court prohibited Donald Trump from participating in the primaries. The case was brought by a group of voters from Colorado. They argued that Trump should be disqualified for inciting his supporters to attack the Capitol in January 2021. The decision applies only to the March 5 Republican primary in Colorado, but it could affect Trump’s status in the state in the November 5 general election.
