Flying from Yemen: an unidentified drone tried to attack a US destroyer in the Red Sea

The ship’s Carney detection system promptly detected the threat, but journalists did not specify what kind of weapon was used to destroy the drone. At the time of the attack, the destroyer was escorting ships with military cargo.

In the Red Sea, a US Navy warship shot down an unmanned aerial vehicle that was allegedly heading from Yemen toward Israel. This was reported by Reuters.

Pentagon officials, without disclosing their identities, said that the Carney destroyer had shot down an unidentified unmanned aerial vehicle. According to sources, the drone was launched from Yemen. No information was provided on who could have been responsible for the drone’s launch.

According to reports, the US destroyer’s detection system successfully detected the drone. However, the type of weapon used to shoot down the drone remains unknown.

“Although its intentions are unknown, the UAV was heading for a warship,” the agency said, adding that at the time the Carney was accompanying two ships, one of which was carrying military equipment to the region.

The statement said that no one among the American personnel was injured.

It should be noted that the Carney destroyer visited Odesa as part of the Sea Breeze 2019 international naval exercises.
