On Tuesday, August 29, a patrol policeman shot and killed a man on Ivan Mazepa Avenue in Dnipro. The SBI is establishing the circumstances and legality of the use of service firearms by the suspect.
It is known that law enforcement officers tried to stop a luxury car in the center of Dnipro, but the driver ignored their demands. After the car was stopped, the man behaved aggressively and showed signs of alcohol intoxication.
The prosecutor’s office notes that the patrol officers stopped the car and asked all passengers, including minors, to get out. They refused, and the police decided to use force and pepper spray. The situation led to a fight, during which one of the police officers shot the victim three times in the back. The man died from his injuries.
It should be noted that in this situation, the patrol policeman did not warn of his intention to use the weapon and did not make a warning shot. He immediately shot the man at point-blank range in front of the children, who were probably recording the incident on video.
Criminal proceedings have been initiated under part. 1 Art. 115 (premeditated murder), which provides for imprisonment for a term of seven to 15 years, part. 3 Art. 365 (abuse of power or official authority by a law enforcement officer) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which in turn is punishable by imprisonment for a term of six to eight years with disqualification to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for up to three years.
It is worth noting that local Telegram channels in Dnipro spread information that the police officer opened fire when the man attacked his partner.
