France confiscates Putin’s ex-wife’s villa on the Cote d’Azur
The Paris prosecutor’s office’s organized crime unit has taken up Putin’s ex-wife, Lyudmila. She lost her French villa Reverie (some media call it Suzanne). French authorities have confiscated a €5.4 million mansion on the Cote d’Azur.
This was reported by the French publication Challenges, citing informed sources.
Back in May 2022, the influential international organization Transparency International, which specializes in fighting corruption, drew attention to Putin’s villa. She called on the French authorities to check the deal for the purchase of the mansion for the legality of the funds’ origin. It was expected that the audit revealed violations.
Prosecutors, among other things, searched the mansion. In December 2023, following the results of the proceedings, the French court decided to seize the villa from the Russians.
It is worth noting that this property was registered in the name of an entrepreneur, Artur Ocheretny, who became Putin’s new husband. After Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the owners left the mansion, and it has been abandoned for the past two years.
The villa is located in the French resort town of Anglet on the shores of the Bay of Biscay. Putin’s ex-wife bought it for €5.4 million.
“The real estate in France of several oligarchs close to the Kremlin, such as Gennady Timchenko, the Rotenberg brothers or Sergei Toni, is also under attack,” the newspaper writes. Their French property is being investigated.
