Russian dictator Vladimir Putin’s visit to the headquarters that coordinates the war in Ukraine is seen by analysts from the UK Ministry of Defense’s intelligence division as a demonstration of power and control over the troops.
Putin visited the headquarters of the Southern Military District in Rostov-on-Don on August 19. This headquarters is located about 160 kilometers from the front line and includes a command post responsible for managing military operations in Ukraine.
During this visit, the Kremlin dictator held a showcase meeting with senior officers, including Chief of the General Staff General Valery Gerasimov, who continues to lead the operation in Ukraine.
“Wagner’s group briefly seized the headquarters in June 2023. Putin most likely wants to demonstrate his power and show that the high military command is functioning as usual,” the experts say.
Earlier it was reported that on Wednesday, August 23, a small plane crashed in the Tver region of Russia. According to Russian media reports, the plane belonged to Yevgeniy Pryzhyn, the head of the so-called Wagner PMC.
