Latest Roadrunner drones are able to intercept Shahed-136 in the air (video)
North American company Anduril has introduced Roadrunner interceptor drones. The Ukrainian military will be able to use them to destroy the Shahed. This opinion was expressed by military expert Samuel Bendett, who works at the Center for American Security, in an interview with Wired.
The expert noted that drones are actively used by both sides of the military confrontation. Inexpensive consumer copters are used to search for targets. After that, barrage munitions come into play. Bendett expressed his belief that new attack drones will be designed by American defense manufacturers, taking into account Ukrainian experience.
The Russian army uses the Lancet UAV, while the Ukrainian army uses the Switchblade. They are virtually invulnerable to electronic warfare and ground-based air defense systems. Fighter jet guns and expensive missiles are highly effective against barrage munitions. Modular Roadrunner drones with turbojet engines can be an alternative to these firepowered weapons.
The Roadrunner-M version is equipped with a high-explosive warhead. It is designed to attack targets in kamikaze mode. The drone can be used to destroy missiles and barrage munitions. Targets are searched by AI. In manual control mode, the operator can guide several aircraft to targets simultaneously.
