Lenovo’s curiosity: the company has combined an Android tablet and a Windows laptop in one device
At CES 2024, Lenovo demonstrated the ThinkBook Plus Gen 5 Hybrid, which runs Windows when used as a laptop and Android when used as a tablet.
The ThinkBook Plus Gen 5 Hybrid consists of a station that can be used separately when connected to an external display and a 14-inch 2.8K OLED screen that can be detached and used independently.
“This amazing solution contains two products: a basic Microsoft Windows laptop system and a tablet, but they can be used separately as two devices or work together as a laptop, so users can easily switch between Windows 11 and Android,” Lenovo said.
The company presents the new device as a development for media content creators, designers, logistics specialists, and financial analysts, and claims that it can perform almost any basic task in different formats: as a full-fledged Windows 11 laptop, as a hybrid streaming laptop that streams Android applications, as a tablet with a keyboard, or as a regular Android 13 tablet.
CNET writes that the device is equipped with an Intel Core Ultra 7 processor (in the hybrid station) and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 processor (in the display). The on-screen part has all the components of an Android tablet, including a 38 Wh battery, a camera, and some buttons. The station is equipped with a 75 Wh battery.
The device is expected to go on sale in the second quarter of 2024 at a price starting at USD 2,000.
