“Mavka. The Forest Song” grossed almost UAH 82 million in 3 weeks of release.

It became the highest-grossing movie since Ukraine's independence

The Ukrainian animated film “Mavka. The Forest Song” continues to break records at the Ukrainian box office. We remind you that in its first weekend of release, this animated film grossed almost UAH 25 million, which is a new record for Ukrainian releases. And now, according to the Ukrainian State Film Agency, Mavka has become the highest-grossing Ukrainian film in all the years of independence.

It is noted that since the beginning of its release in Ukrainian cinemas, the animated film Mavka. The Forest Song” has sold 642,671 tickets, and the total box office has amounted to UAH 81,848,415. This result is more than UAH 10 million higher than the figure for the film I, You, He, She, which was ranked second. It should be noted that Mavka managed to achieve this record result after only 3 weeks of screenings, and the distribution is still ongoing. Therefore, we can expect further growth in box office.

The authors of the cartoon note that there is a logical explanation for such results. “Mavka. The Forest Song” turned out to be so popular that even 3 weeks after the start of the movie’s release, it continues to gather full cinema halls.

“For the third weekend in a row, our viewers from different cities of Ukraine have been spending time watching Mavka. Many of you even attend the screenings for the second and third time, each time discovering new and new hidden meanings and visual Easter eggs – we learn about this from your feedback,” the Facebook page says.

Recall that “Mavka. The Forest Song” is the second full-length animated film by the Ukrainian studio Animagrad (The Stolen Princess: Ruslan and Lyudmila). The script of the animated film is based on the classic plot of Lesya Ukrainka’s drama-fairy tale The Forest Song and on images from Ukrainian mythology.

The animated film was created by Animagrad studio (FILM.UA Group) with the support of the Ukrainian State Film Agency and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID Ukraine). Theatrical distribution is carried out by FILM.UA Distribution and Kinomania.
