More than 2000 passengers are stuck on the Norwegian Dawn cruise ship due to a mysterious virus
During the trip, the tourists experienced symptoms of gastrointestinal disorders. Additional inspections are currently underway on the ship.
More than 2,000 passengers of the Norwegian Dawn cruise ship are unable to disembark in Port Louis, Mauritius, after a trip that included a visit to the island of Madagascar due to suspected infection with an unknown virus. This was reported by the Abendblatt publication.
The reason for the introduction of quarantine on board the ship was the cases of passengers being infected with an unknown disease. Most likely, it is a norovirus, although doctors do not rule out that it could be cholera.
According to the report, Norwegian Dawn is now expected to dock no earlier than Tuesday, February 27. This news was an unpleasant “surprise” for new passengers waiting to board. Now they will have to stay in local hotels until the problem is resolved.
In turn, Norwegian Cruise Line, the shipping company that owns the ship, issued an official statement. It says that during the cruise, a small number of passengers experienced mild symptoms of gastrointestinal disorders. After that, representatives of the carrier met with the Mauritian authorities to confirm the measures taken to ensure the well-being of all passengers on board.
“The government of Mauritius has postponed the disembarkation and boarding of passengers for the next flight for two days, until February 27, 2024. Additional checks are being conducted. To support NCL guests, they will be provided with complimentary hotel accommodation until they board, and we will also assist with rebooking return flights for those passengers who are currently waiting to disembark,” the company said.
According to them, the health and safety of passengers and crew remains a priority, as NCL is committed to high standards of hygiene and encourages passengers to report any symptoms of illness to medical professionals immediately.
