Netflix to release Broadway play about Vladimir Putin

The play will be directed by British screenwriter Peter Morgan, who previously worked on the TV series The Crown.

Netflix is preparing a Broadway production of Patriots about Russian President Vladimir Putin by Peter Morgan, the creator of the TV series The Crown. This was reported by Variety.

The play is set in 1991 after the collapse of the Soviet Union and tells the story of Russian oligarch Boris Berezovsky, a billionaire who helped Vladimir Putin come to power. He later became a fierce critic of the Russian president and died in 2013 in London under unclear circumstances.

Will Keane will portray Putin on stage, and Michael Stuhlbarg, known for The Shape of Water, Men in Black 3, and Arrival, will portray Berezovsky. Another Russian oligarch, Roman Abramovich, will be played by Luc Tellon.

The New York premiere is scheduled for April 22, 2024. The play will run at the Ethel Barrymore Theater for 12 weeks.

Earlier it was reported that Netflix streaming service intends to raise prices in 2024 to accelerate revenue and profit growth.
