Poland introduces new toll rates for toll roads and replaces 95 gasoline

Since January 1, Poland has introduced new toll rates for heavy trucks and changed the chemical composition of E5 gasoline with an octane rating of 95.

On the eve of the new year, the new tariffs were announced by the official gazette of the electronic toll collection system of the National Tax Administration of Poland. The notification contains tariffs for all categories of vehicles and their environmental classes.

The tariff schedule shows that owners of Euro 5 cars with a permitted gross vehicle weight of more than 3.5 tons and less than 12 tons will pay the least. They will have to pay PLN 0.28 per kilometer on the national AIS road.

But owners of vehicles of the same weight, but of the Euro-2 environmental format, will have to pay almost twice as much for each kilometer of the AIS route – 0.55 zloty.

By the way, the same Euro 5 and Euro 2 environmental standards apply to buses. But there, this applies to all size groups, regardless of their permissible total weight.

Also, from January 1, 2024, E5 gasoline with an octane rating of 95 was replaced at Polish gas stations with E10 gasoline containing up to 10% of biocomponents with the same octane rating.

The Ministry of Environment of Poland emphasized that the “vast majority” of passenger cars with spark-ignition engines manufactured after January 1, 2010, are adapted to use E10 motor gasoline. However, according to the Association of the Polish Automotive Industry, the average age of a passenger car in 2020 in Poland was 14.3 years, so owners are advised to take into account the age of the car.

According to the National Biofuel Chamber, Poland became the 18th EU country to introduce E10 fuel. She noted that this fuel is already available in Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, the Netherlands, Spain, Ireland, Lithuania, Latvia, Luxembourg, Germany, Romania, Slovakia, and Hungary. In addition, E10 is also available in the UK and Norway.
