ROGUE-Fire ground drone will become a carrier for Tomahawk missiles

The US Marines intend to form the first missile battalion with ground-based Tomahawk launchers. According to The Drive, it will contain three batteries of LMSL (long-range missiles). The battalion is expected to be formed by 2030.

The Marine Corps plans to use the ROGUE-Fire unmanned system as a carrier for Tomahawk missiles. It is better known to the general public as NMESIS. From such drones, the US military launches NSM anti-ship missiles.

The strengths of ROGUE-Fire include remote control and compactness. The drone is based on the chassis of the JLTV tactical armored vehicle. According to experts, the Marines may have problems using the drone as a ground launch platform. Due to its small size, ROGUE-Fire has stability problems even when launching 5-meter NSM missiles. The Tomahawk missile is 7 meters long. Thus, it requires a longer launch container to run it. How the marines solved this problem is not fully understood. Meanwhile, they claim that the trial launch of the Tomahawk from a ground-based platform was successful.

The US Army has chosen a more practical path. To launch Tomahawk from the ground, it plans to use Typhon universal launchers.
