Saudi Arabia uses Patriot to help USS Carney destroyer shoot down missiles fired by Iranian proxies

Last week, the destroyer USS Carney (DDG 64) shot down several missiles over the Red Sea. As it turned out, he was helped by the Patriot system.

What is known

The Houthis from Yemen, supported by Iran, fired missiles with a range of 2,000 kilometers and drones at Israel. In nine hours, the Arleigh Burke-class destroyer intercepted 15 drones and four cruise missiles.

As it became known later, a total of five cruise missiles were launched from Yemen, not four. Another was destroyed by Saudi Arabia using the American MIM-104 Patriot air defense system.

US Department of Defense spokesman Brigadier General Pat Ryder said there was no evidence that the order for the launches was given by the Iranian authorities. At the same time, a senior official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that the United States blames Iran for the situation.
