Slideshow mode and defect removal tool – Microsoft tests new features in Windows 11

Microsoft is testing an update to its Photos app for Windows 11 that expands its functionality. Thus, the program has a new Spot Fix feature designed to correct defects in photos. Another innovation is the slide show feature.

The new mode allows you to view photos in a slideshow format with the usual animations, transitions and soundtracks.

“This has been the top request we’ve received from the community since we launched the new Photos app in Windows 11 last fall,” said Yvonne Hsieh, general manager of Windows Photos.

The Spot Fix tool allows you to remove spots or unwanted areas from photos. According to the description, the tool is similar to Photoshop’s Healing Brush, which tries to eliminate unwanted fragments by matching the content of the rest of the photo. The user can customize the size of the editing area. However, the tool does not remove unwanted objects from photos like the Magic Eraser feature offered by Google.

In addition, Microsoft is bringing back another important feature to the program – the timeline scroll bar. It allows you to quickly scroll through moments in time and find photos by year and month. This can be useful when searching for photos from a specific event in the past in a large library.

Windows 11 testers in the Canary and Dev channels have already gained access to the updated Photos app. In the coming months, the new features should be available to the public.
