Alare Technologies engineers designed the BLADE-55 drone, which is capable of carrying two grenade launchers. The premiere of the unusual aircraft took place at AUSA 2022.
According to the Bulgarian Military, the drone shown at the US exhibition is armed with the M72 LAW twin grenade launcher manufactured by the Norwegian company NAMMO. The drone is able to take off from the ground vertically with nine kilograms of payload. Grenade launchers are used to attack armored vehicles from the air. After firing, the UAV returns to the operator for reloading.
Pomegranates are relatively inexpensive. In this regard, BLADE-55 is much cheaper to operate than kamikaze drones.
By the way, the drone can be used not only to destroy enemy armored vehicles, but also to collect intelligence. The UAV is equipped with a camera, a sensor and a GPS module. The US Air Force has already managed to grant Alare Technologies permission to conduct combat firings.
