The expert explained why the first NASAMS batteries should be deployed in Kyiv
The first batch of NASAMS launchers, which will be delivered to Ukraine from the USA, is to be deployed in Kyiv. Such an opinion was expressed by Defense Express analyst Serhiy Zgurets during a speech on the air of the “Expresso” TV channel.
He explained that the protection of the sky above the Ukrainian capital is important from many aspects. First, Kyiv is the most densely populated city in Ukraine. Secondly, the highest political and military leadership of the country is physically located in Kyiv. It is from the capital of Ukraine that the large Ukrainian army is managed. Thirdly, there are strategically important bridges across the Dnipro in Kyiv.
Zgurets emphasized that the NASAMS air defense system is capable of hitting targets at a distance of up to 40 kilometers. This will be enough to protect particularly important areas of the Ukrainian capital. The complex is manufactured in Norway, while the missiles for it are produced in the USA by Raytheon Technologies. It also supplies the US Army with Tomahawk cruise missiles.
