The highest-grossing biopic in history: “Oppenheimer” earns $912 million at the global box office

Christopher Nolan’s film Oppenheimer set a record as the highest-grossing biopic in history, earning $912.7 million at the global box office.

Thus, the film outpaced Bohemian Rhapsody in 2018, which grossed $910.8 million.

The film tells the story of the work and life of theoretical physicist and professor at the University of California, Berkeley, Robert Oppenheimer, who led the Manhattan Project, a US project to create nuclear weapons during World War II.

The script is based on the 2006 Pulitzer Prize-winning novel American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer.

The film stars Cillian Murphy in the title role and also features Robert Downey Jr, Emily Blunt, Florence Pugh, Matt Damon, Kenneth Branagh and Rami Malek.

It is worth noting that Malek won his first Oscar for his role as Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody, and although he appears in Oppenheimer for only a few minutes, his cameo is extremely important: the scientist David Gill adored Oppenheimer’s work, and his testimony later revealed a conspiracy against the scientist by Lewis Strauss, who was never appointed to the post of US Secretary of Commerce because of it.

“Oppenheimer” is still showing in theaters and is currently considered one of the main contenders for the Oscar.
