A 1967 Toyota 2000 GT coupe was sold at Bonhams in the UK for 799,000 pounds, which is equivalent to $996,000.
The high price for which the 1967 Toyota 2000 GT was sold can be explained by several factors.
First, this model is rare, with only 337 units produced. Secondly, it is the first sports car from Toyota. Thirdly, the Toyota 2000 GT was marked by successful races, which highlighted the company on the international stage. In addition, this model became famous for its appearance in the James Bond movie You Only Live Twice.
In terms of design, the Toyota 2000 GT stands out for its elegance, with its long hood and retractable headlights. This model was innovative for its time, having independent suspension of all wheels and disc brakes.
Under the hood is a 2.0-liter inline 6-cylinder engine with 150 horsepower developed by Yamaha. With a 5-speed manual transmission, the car can accelerate to 100 kilometers per hour in 8.4 seconds and reach a top speed of 220 kilometers per hour.
This particular car was purchased in 1968 by the head of Toyota’s representative office in Mozambique, later ended up in Portugal, and in 2011 was transported to the UK, where it underwent restoration, although it is quite well preserved.
