Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO) Tedros Adanom Ghebreyesus stated the increase in the incidence of COVID-19 and called for the return of quarantine measures.
“Respiratory illnesses caused by COVID-19, influenza and other pathogens have been on the rise in many countries for several weeks, and are expected to continue after the recent holidays. Continue to use masks, ventilation and distance to reduce exposure, and make sure you and your loved ones are up-to-date on your COVID-19 and flu vaccinations,” said the WHO Director-General.
He called on the authorities to provide access to reliable tests, treatments and vaccines. Especially those who are in the “risk zone.”
Gebreyesus also recommends continuing surveillance, sequencing and reporting to track the evolution of the COVID-19 virus and to clearly inform the public about the situation.
