The world’s largest automakers are creating a huge network of charging stations in the US

Seven of the world’s largest automakers will create an unprecedented new joint network of electric vehicle charging stations that will significantly expand access to powerful chargers in North America.

BMW Group, General Motors, Honda, Hyundai, Kia, Mercedes-Benz Group, Stellantis NV will install at least 30,000 powerful charging stations in cities and on highways to provide customers with the ability to charge anytime and anywhere they need to.

The network will provide reliability, powerful charging, digital integration, attractive location, and a variety of amenities for charging and using renewable energy.

The charging stations will be available to all electric vehicle owners, offering both Combined Charging System (CCS) and North American Charging Standard (NACS) connectors.

The first stations are scheduled to open in the summer of 2024.

Stations will be located in convenient locations, with shelters where possible, as well as amenities such as restrooms, food and retail facilities nearby or within the same complex.

Initial plans call for charging stations to be located in megacities and along major highways. The network’s features and services will allow for seamless integration with automotive and mobile applications of participating automakers, including booking, intelligent route planning and navigation, payment applications, transparent energy management, etc. In addition, the network will use Plug & Charge technology to further improve the customer experience.
