Trump broke his promise and returned to X (formerly Twitter)

Former US President Donald Trump wrote on Twitter (now known as X), breaking his more than 2-year silence on the platform.

On January 8, 2021, after a rally of Trump supporters that ended with the storming of the Capitol and the deaths of 5 people, the previous Twitter administration restricted Trump’s access to the social network due to the risk of further incitement to violence. However, after the acquisition of Twitter by Elon Musk, the platform underwent dramatic changes. The new owner lifted the previous locks on a number of accounts, including Donald Trump’s. Although at the time of the poll, Trump himself said that he saw no point in returning to Twitter. He continued to post on Truth Social until he was jailed on Thursday. And now Trump has changed his mind.

Trump’s first tweet since January 8, 2021, came after he was jailed on Thursday on 13 felony counts related to interference in the 2020 Georgia election. The former president, who is running for re-election in 2024, tweeted shortly after his arrest photo went public.

In his tweet, Donald Trump directed his followers and readers to a page to collect donations.

“Today, in the notoriously brutal Fulton County, Georgia jail, I was ARRESTED despite having committed NO CRIME,” the fundraising message reads. “…If you can, please do your part to drive the fraud Joe Biden out of the White House and SAVE AMERICA during this dark period in our country’s history.”

It should be noted that Trump is not actually in jail. He arrived at the Fulton County Jail, where his fingerprints were taken and a photo was taken, which immediately went viral on the Internet. But after posting a $200 thousand bail, the company was able to get the money. Trump has left the establishment.
