Ukraine launches free online English courses for military personnel
The Goncharenko Center, a network of educational, cultural and volunteer spaces, launches free online English courses for members of the Defense Forces. The training will be based on a specialized program that covers topics and terminology necessary to communicate with foreign instructors and study documentation for weapons from partner countries.
According to the organizers, the Goncharenko Center already has experience in teaching military personnel: pilot English classes for the Armed Forces were successfully tested in early 2023. Now, soldiers of the Defense Forces are invited to a specialized course.
“It is frankly difficult to overestimate the relevance of this program. Our soldiers fight side by side with volunteers from all over the world, go abroad for training, and communicate with instructors. And in all these cases, they need English. This is something that is really urgent. Just one example: the training of our pilots on the F-16 is hampered by the lack of English. Both basic and “military” and specialized English. It’s time to change this, language can also fight.”The team of the Honcharenko Center notes.
According to Viktoria Zakharova, director of the Honcharenko Center Online, a special program has been prepared for the Defense Forces to help them master basic military vocabulary and key topics in three months.
“This is a special course for our servicemen, designed for the Elementary (A1) level. It consists of a series of thematic blocks that will help our defenders communicate with foreign instructors and fellow International Legion members, as well as study the documentation for weapons from partner countries. The topics include military bases, units and positions, rules and regulations, military routine, vehicles and weapons, personnel organization and much more.” – says Victoria Zakharova, director of the Goncharenko Center Online.
All classes are completely free, and each meeting will cover a new topic. Thanks to this, you can join the training at any stage, and all training materials will be duplicated in the group chat. To join the training, servicemen need to fill out a Google form at this link.
