Ukrainian film “Stepne” wins best film award at Italian film festival
Ukrainian director Maryna Vroda’s feature film Stepne won an award at the 35th Trieste International Film Festival in Italy.
This was reported by the Ukrainian Film Academy on its Facebook page.
The film depicts a few days in the life of a man who comes to the Ukrainian village of Stepne to take care of his mother when she is dying.
The film impressed the festival jury with its “melancholic portrayal of the life of a disappearing village, of pain and vanished hopes, conveyed with tenderness and truthfulness.”
The plot of the movie
In the story, Anatoliy returns home from the big city to take care of his sick mother. The death of his mother, a meeting with his brother, and the woman he loves make him reflect on the life he has lived and the decisions he has made along the way. And then, before her death, her mother tells Anatolii about the treasure she buried in the barn…
The film stars Alexander Maksyakov, Nina Antonova, Oleg Primogenov, and Radmila Shchegoleva. The film was produced by VrodaStudio with the support of the Ukrainian State Film Agency and co-produced with Germany, Poland and Slovakia.
As a reminder, the Ukrainian-American film won the Grand Prix at the Sundance Film Festival in the United States.
The Ukrainian film Forever and Ever also won the main prize at the Cottbus Film Festival.
