Ukrainian film to be screened at North America’s largest documentary film festival

The Hot Docs International Documentary Film Festival in Canada will screen the Ukrainian documentary Eurodonbas directed by Korniy Hrytsiuk and produced by 435 FILMS. The screenings will take place on April 30 and May 5 at the Scotiabank Theatre Toronto.

This is stated in the press release of 435 FILMS.

“This is an investigative film aimed at debunking Soviet myths and showing that more than 100 years ago, Donbas was an integral part of the European economy.

“The film team found and animated a number of unique but little-known archival materials from the 19th century that show the life of Europeans in Donbas. Experts, historians and local residents in the film talk about the past of the region, which was carefully destroyed and distorted by the Soviet authorities, erasing the names of such European entrepreneurs as John Hughes, Ernest Solve, Heinrich Laude from people’s memory,” the statement said.

“Eurodonbas” shows the foreign heritage of Mariupol, Lysychansk, Druzhkivka, and the village of New York, which can no longer be seen as they were in the film, because shortly after the shooting, almost all the filmed objects of European heritage were destroyed by Russian troops.

It is noted that Hot Docs is the largest documentary film festival in North America, which annually presents more than 200 cutting-edge films.
