On Friday, December 23, Ukrposhta issued the “Shchedryk. Carol of the Bells” stamp, which is dedicated to the centenary of the premiere of the famous Shchedryk at Carnegie Hall in New York

The stamp was redeemed with the “First Day” stamp in Kyiv on Sofia Square next to the country’s main Christmas tree. The stamp was also redeemed in the birthplace of the composer Mykola Leontovych in Vinnytsia.

Director General of Ukrposhta Ihor Smilyanskyi and Honored Artist of Ukraine, author of the postage stamp “Shchedryk. Carol of the Bells” Mykolai Kochubey took part in the event. Researcher of the history of “Schedryk” Tina Peresunko also took part.

Children’s choir “Vesnyanka” was present. “Schedryk” sounded in their performance.

“The new postage stamp is imbued with the spirit of Christmas, Ukrainian culture, and traditions. I am sure it will resonate in the hearts of Ukrainians, because Shchedryk is one of our cultural symbols. And our stamp predicts a happy and victorious year ahead,” Smilyanskyi said.

Kochubey told. that in the work he used the technique of the transition of colors from soft green to blue, and also reproduced the symbols mentioned in the song. So, in particular, the stamp depicts a swallow, Hutsuls against the background of the Carpathians, carolers, and lambs.

“There is an interesting detail in the picture: all the characters are wearing bells. After all, the Christmas bell is considered not only a mandatory attribute of carolers, but also defeats chaos and sanctifies space,” Kochubey shared.

The circulation of the stamp is 200,000 copies. Denomination – W. A “First Day” envelope and a card were traditionally issued for the stamp.
