Unmanned truck: Czech Republic starts testing vehicle to be used by military and firefighters (photos, video)
Tatra is testing its first self-driving car. This truck is being developed for use in the military and firefighting sector and for work in quarries.
The project is being jointly implemented by Tatra, the French automotive component manufacturer Valeo, and the Mobility Laboratory of the Technical University of Ostrava.
The drone was based on the new third-generation Tatra Force in a two-axle version equipped with a 400-horsepower Cummims L9 turbodiesel engine and automatic transmission. In addition, automatic braking and lane-keeping systems are installed.
At the first stage, the university created a remote control system for the truck. Also, systems have been developed to assist with turning and lane change.
Gradually, the Tatra Force truck will become fully autonomous – it will receive a level 3 autopilot capable of operating without a driver. Auto equip with a lidar (laser rangefinder) and sensors from Valeo, as well as speed, steering and brake control systems.
