“Water everywhere”: it became known why the Teremky-Demiivska section of the Kyiv subway was closed (video)

The Kyiv City State Administration announced that traffic between Teremky and Demiivska stations was suspended, and Kyiv City Council member Ksenia Semenova posted a video of the tunnel being flooded.

In Kyiv, starting December 8, the metro tunnel between Demiivska and Teremky is closed for six months for urgent repairs. The tunnels were constructed in 2008-2010 on a difficult site in the floodplain of the Lybid River with artificial water lowering.

The Kyiv City State Administration said that the subway trains on the section between Teremky and Demiivska stations were stopped for safety reasons and taking into account the technical condition of the tunnels. Currently, trains are running between the Heroiv Dnipra and Lybidska stations.

Duplicate ground transportation routes will be operational within about two hours, the Kyiv City State Administration wrote.

According to Semenova, due to the broken sealing of the tunnel, there is now significant flooding on the rail and sleeper grid.

Due to the fact that the water level is now up to the soles of the rails and higher, a speed limit of 15 km/h has been imposed on cars, she wrote.

According to Semenova, the causes of the flooding are still unknown.

  • The metro section being closed for urgent repairs is the newest in Kyiv. These stations were opened during the time of Viktor Yanukovych in 2010-2013.
