YouTube Music will search for music for you in a new way, but not quite

The new Samples tab, coming soon to YouTube Music, will help you discover new music. To do this, it uses a familiar and well-proven approach that we see in TikTok.

Channel 24 reports citing The Verge.

How it works

Judging by the screenshots, the button will be located near the main Home tab. The feature works like TikTok’s short videos, but the feed consists exclusively of small fragments of music videos. The company describes it as “a continuous feed of short video segments to help you find your new favorite music.”

The fact is that today users rely heavily on TikTok recommendations, which provide us with viral videos with equally viral tracks. If a song becomes popular on this social network, it instantly takes off on streaming services. This phenomenon has become so popular that Spotify often has entire playlists with names like “Songs from TikTok” that collect popular music, and TikTok itself has announced its own music streaming service.

The Samples feed is personalized based on your interests, so when you open it, the app will try to provide you with a wide variety of music that you might like. If you find something you like, you can press a separate button to play the song in full, watch the full video, add it to your playlist, or even make a short movie with it as a soundtrack.

The advantage of YouTube, of course, is that it’s the only place where you can do all of this in one app. And soon it will also include podcasts, which the company has been testing for so long that the news about it looks like it was published for the first time.
