YouTube “attacked” ad blockers with renewed vigor
YouTube slows down the platform on purpose, and you can only speed it up by disabling the ad blocker or signing up for a premium subscription.
Advertising is a huge source of revenue for YouTube, and the company has been fighting blockers for years that prevent it from being viewed.
Last year in May, the platform started restricting the viewing of videos on the platform in the browser when it detected an ad blocker was enabled and issued a corresponding Pop-Up warning that “Ad blockers are not allowed on YouTube.”
To continue watching the content, you had to choose one of two options – allow ads or purchase a YouTube Premium subscription.
In June, the platform limited the number of views to three videos for users who use an ad blocker, and in November it began to slow down the entire site quite aggressively – and now, according to by posting on Reddit, has extended the “update” to more users (all of whom complain that the site is slow and unresponsive).
The situation changes if you disable the blocker – the same thing happens if you switch to Premium (an individual YouTube Premium subscription in Ukraine costs 99 UAH per month (student subscription is almost twice as cheap), while the YouTube Premium family plan for 6 people costs 149 UAH per month).
