“Planet of the Apes: Kingdom” – the first trailer for the sequel to the two-billion-dollar franchise has been released
Six years after War for the Planet of the Apes (2017), the trailer for the next installment of the franchise based on Pierre Boult’s novel, Planet of the Apes: Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, which gives a first look at the world after the fall of humans. The film will be released in the summer of 2024.
“As a new tyrannical ape leader builds his empire, one young ape embarks on a terrifying journey that will force her to question everything she knows about the past and make choices that will shape the future of both apes and humans.”
Owen Teague joined the cast of the film as the voice and motion capture model of Cornelius, the son of Caesar and the protagonist of the film. “Planet of the Apes: Kingdom” will follow him in his attempts to navigate this new world where nature has regained power and humanity has been forced into the shadows.
Kevin Durand, Freya Allen, William H. Macy and Peter Macon also round out the franchise’s cast in this new installment. The Maze Runner screenwriter Wes Ball took the director’s chair for this film based on a script by Josh Friedman, Rick Jaffa, Amanda Silver and Patrick Eyson. Peter Chernin and Jennaud Topping are executive producers, with Jaffa, Silver, Joe Hartwick Jr. and Jason Reed serving as producers on the project.
The film was filmed in Sydney, Australia, and production began in October 2022 and ended four months later, in February 2013. Then Ball announced the completion of the shooting on social media and posted footage from the set.
Over the years, the franchise has become a cultural phenomenon and has grossed more than $2 billion at the global box office. Its younger fans may not know that the original series of films began in 1968 and consisted of six films that were shot until 2001. Ten years later, the modern relaunch began with the first installment, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, in 2011. Next came Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (2014) and War for the Planet of the Apes (2017), which received recognition. After Disney acquired 20th Century Fox in April 2019, it came as no surprise when the studio announced the franchise’s extension.
