Curfew to be reduced in Kyiv and Kyiv region

Ground transportation will work longer

The curfew in the capital and Kyiv region is to be reduced from March 26: according to preliminary information, it will last from 00:00 to 05:00.
This was announced by Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko.

He noted that the subway and ground transportation will run in accordance with the new curfew time starting March 26, meaning they will work an hour longer.

Shops, shopping centers, and restaurants will also extend their hours of operation. They will take into account the time for their employees to get home before the curfew starts.

In Kyiv region, the curfew will also be reduced. Like in Kyiv, it will last from 00:00 to 05:00 every day.

“Most regional centers of Ukraine have also reduced the curfew time,” Klitschko said.

Earlier, the Kyiv City Military Administration announced the curfew reduction.

They noted that procedural coordination on the timing and procedure for changing the duration of the curfew in Kyiv is currently underway.

“According to the working version, the curfew in the capital of Ukraine is likely to be reduced from March 26, 2023. Starting from that date, it will last from 00:00 to 05:00 every day,” Serhiy Popko, head of the Kyiv City Administration of the Kyiv City Police, said in a statement.

He emphasized that the issue of the curfew was regularly considered by the KCIA. It was worked out jointly with the command of the Capital Defense Forces Group, as they saw a public demand for a reduction. In this regard, the KCSA has implemented a number of security measures that would reduce the curfew period.

Popko noted that reducing the duration of the curfew will improve logistics in Kyiv, in particular, increase the time of public transport for the convenience of Kyiv residents and visitors.

“Reducing the duration should also help reduce social tension, increase production, and create new jobs. Service companies will also be able to extend their working hours. The Kyiv City Military Administration will take into account all guarantees of public safety, ensuring the organization of stable life in Kyiv and facilitating the performance of combat or service tasks of the Armed Forces and law enforcement agencies, the ability to perform defense measures, service, combat tasks, etc.”, Popko emphasized.

However, the head of the Kyiv City Administration reminded that threats to the capital and its residents still exist, so security measures, including curfews, may be strengthened if necessary.

“To prevent this from happening, we need unity. We need the support of the Armed Forces. Every day. Do not forget that it is thanks to the boys and girls at the front that Kyiv is able to return to a more civilized life. Together we are bringing peace to Ukraine after our Victory!” – Popko summarized.

The KCIA reminded that during the curfew it is forbidden to be on the street or in other public places, as well as to move by transport or on foot. If a person is on the street at this time, the curfew patrol has the right to detain him or her, check documents and determine the reason for the curfew violation. They can also inspect the detainee’s belongings, vehicle, or even home.
