Hungary has developed its first drone for the military (video)
The ProTAR jet drone will help the army strengthen its air defense. In the future, the manufacturer wants to bring the new product to the international market.
Rotors & Cams Zrt., a Hungarian drone developer, has unveiled the ProTAR model, a drone that serves as a target for training air defense units, Hungary Today reports. This device weighs 68 kilograms and can fly at speeds up to 500 km/h.
The target drone is capable of flying at an altitude of 6000 meters, has an operating time of 60 minutes and a communication range with the operator of up to 75 kilometers. The drone itself consists of three parts: an airplane, a catapult, and a ground control center. The device can be launched in a short time from the launch table, also developed in Hungary. The repeat time of the catapult launch does not exceed two minutes. In addition to the aircraft and catapult, the third part of the equipment is a ground control center consisting of nine people.
The drone can simulate various situations in the sky without using expensive airplanes. The use of ProTAR in the army will reduce the material and human risks and costs of conducting air defense exercises.
“The development of the armed forces can only be successful if we create a Hungarian defense industry,” said Imre Porkolab, Minister-Commissioner for Defense Innovation, at the official presentation of the drone. He added that the new technology can prove itself in the international market and is an important milestone in the modernization of the defense forces.
“In today’s international context, airspace protection is of paramount importance, and the use of drones is becoming increasingly important,” the official said.
